iHeartMedia stock… coming soon to a portfolio near you while Bob Pittman is tearing up the media circuit talking about how great the RadioDaily podcast is! Wait, what’s that? Oh… just podcasting in general, not this one. Got it. Cool.

Industry moves… an EVP out and a new one up at Alpha Media. And more new-ish faces at iHeart, Entercom, Cumulus and Bonneville in various markets across the country.

Plus Drew Carpenter returns for part deux of From Radio Zero to Voiceover Hero, or something like that. He tells you how to get rich with your pipes, basically.

All in the Radio Daily for Thursday April 4 , 2019.

I’m Chris Kelly… welcome to the RadioDaily. It is powered by vCreative … Good people doing good things with really cool software. Long story short, there’s a lot of directing traffic and information flow behind the scenes at radio stations around the world. You know how difficult it is to manage the production process or the promotions process. vCreative? That’s what they do. They do it for you and you should let them. Look them up online at vCreativeInc.com.

Reuters reports that iHeartMedia has filed for an initial public offering with the Securities and Exchange Commission to list its Class ‘A’ common shares, as it nears bankruptcy exit. The company did not disclose the number of shares it was offering, or set a price range, but said it will have two classes of shares. It just set a placeholder amount of $100 million to indicate the size of the IPO, although that can change.

In other iheart news, CEO Bob Pittman is on the media circuit, talking about how quote “audio is hot for the first time in decades.” Of course, he’s referring to more than just broadcast radio, but podcasting and other new platforms. iHeart obviously intends to be a player in that discussion beyond what they already do, so watch this space for more coming soon.

An interesting tidbit from Integr8 Research, whose study “The Alexa Effect” is being doled out in a blog series at their website. The survey most recently reveals that listeners who don’t own an actual radio in their house are the least likely to stream AM or FM stations on their smart speaker. It’s spun in the blog as a good thing, but I’m not sure of the logic. Go ahead and have a read yourself online at integr8research.com.

The lineup is set at KTU New York’s KTUphoria show for June 15th. A-list Artists include the Chainsmokers, Ellie Goulding, Bebe Rexha, Becky G and more. Find details to try and route your own radio show dates with all the artists (wink wink) at ktu.com.

Tomorrow, 93.7 KRQ in Tucson and syndicated morning show Johnjay and Rich are hosting an event to benefit Johnjay Van Es’s #lovepup foundation. The free pet friendly event will focus on raising funds, supplies and awareness for local rescue organizations.

On Tuesday, Radio Ink publisher Deborah Parenti surprised iHeartMedia New York EVP of Programming Thea Mitchem with the news she’s made the cover of their Most Influential Women in Radio issue, due out in May. Mitchem of course is also day to day PD of Power 105-1.

Finally, VO legend Chris Corley’s celebration of life has been set officially for this Saturday in Fort Myers FL. He sadly lost his battle with Pancreatic cancer just a couple weeks ago. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research.

Up next, people are moving all over the industry. We’ll tell you who, and more importantly where with a look at Jockline. That’s next in the RadioDaily.

S E G M E N T    T W O

It’s Jockline … powered by the Mouth. Broadcast Media’s daily mix of top news and information. Don’t forget Morning Show Boot Camp 31 is coming up again in August – the 8th and 9th at the amazing Swissotel in Chicago. Registration and details are available now – online at morningshowbootcamp.com.

Alpha Media EVP Scott Mahalick has resigned from his post after 10 years of service. Seems like a mostly positive parting of ways, with compliments coming from both sides of the equation. Current VP of Programming and super nice dude Phil Becker will rise into the EVP role effective immediately.

iHeartMedia Seattle’s 106-1 KISS FM stunted back in November that the station was under construction, and part of that was to find the “funniest person in Seattle” to join the morning show. That contest has ended. Enter Amber “Alabama” Cole and English Evan Omelia, to the Carla Marie and Anthony Show each weekday morning. Alabama comes from.. Chicago, oddly enough, where she most recently did middays at iHeartMedia sister station Big 95-5. English Evan comes from elsewhere in the building… ironically… right from the iHeartMedia sales department.

San Diego radio vet Bob Buchman has existed as OM and PM drive co-host at iHeartMedia KGB. IN a facebook post, he says he was shocked to learn his position had been eliminated. You can reach him via email – bob@bobbuchmann.com

Big Machine promotes Michelle Attardi to Director of Publishing. She’s been with the label since 2017.

Country 102.5 WKLB in Boston has a new part time, yet familiar, personality. New England radio vet Loren Petisce joins the crew. Her first shift is this Saturday from 7p to midnight.

Aaron Mason is the new co-host of Bonneville News Talk KIRO’s Night show. He joins Gee Scott and occupies the slot vacated by Zak Burns last September.

E Curtis Johnson is the new program director at active rock 105.1 the Blaze in Fresno. He replaces Jon Ballard who we told you departed the station last week. No word what the E in E Curtis Johnson stands for, but lets speculate it stands for “excited” about the new gig.

There’s a new OM and PD at the home of the Zazza Mornings show… Cumulus WA1A in Melbourne Florida. Joe Browning will lead the four station cluster and is inbound from Hometown Media in Corpus Christi Texas.

If you or someone you know is on the move, let us know online at TheRadioDaily.com. Up next, Drew Carpenter returns for the second installment of Radio zero to VO hero … where he takes you on the journey of how he’s built a six figure VO business step by step so you can too. Installment number two from him is next in The RadioDaily.

F E A T U R E   I N T R O

Drew Carpenter has gone from a radio part timer to a full time VO artist and has quietly built a six figure business from basically anywhere he wants to hang his hat. In a multi-part series, he walks you through how he’s done it, in hopes his experience can help you do the same. Part one aired in our March 21st episode. This is Part two.
