Hmmm… so you’ve gone from a morning show in Southern California to host of a hot new podcast put out by a company that was just gobbled up by Spotify. Seems like you’re making all the right decisions to me!

A philly fixture trades cheesesteaks for Tex-Mex and other Texas kinds of things… and Free Beer and Hot Wings, ironically, adds cheese too. Ooh. Now I’m hungry?

Tommy McFly hangs with veteran programmer and consultant Charese Fruge, who tackles issues like the number of female PD’s and how talent can get noticed by VP types like her.

We also buzz through a quick Worldwide Radio Summit preview before jetting off to LA today. Inside the RadioDaily for Wednesday March 27, 2019

So I want to play you a quick snippet of a new podcast released this week for two reasons… first, the snippet. <audio> Reason number one… that voice, from the new Parcast original podcast called “Survival” which debuted earlier this week, is Irma Blanco. She’s one of us and most recently did mornings at KOLA 99.9 in Riverside San Bernardino till her departure last year. She’s now the co-host of this new podcast along with Tim Johnson, which tells the pretty wild stories of people who have survived some pretty extreme circumstances. I point it out as another indicator that good radio people can make great podcast creators… and further to that point, the company that has put this Survival podcast out, Parcast, was announced yesterday as yet another acquisition by streaming monster Spotify. They already purchased Gimlet Media and Anchor last month, now with Parcast they add another 18 original podcast series to their roster. The terms of the acquisition as of now, are still undisclosed.

iHeartMedia’s Newsradio 610 and 96.7 New Hampshire has raised over $153,000 for local veterans with their fifth annual Make 12 Hours Count radiothon. New Hampshire Today host Jack Heath did the 12 hour marathon broadcast from 6a to 6p and raised the money for an organization called Veterans Count – an organization that provides financial assistance, services and resources to New Hampshire vets, service members and their families. Kudos to Jack and the rest of the staff involved for a job well done.

Today, many across the industry are en route to the airport wherever their home may be to board their flight to the west coast for the Worldwide Radio Summit in sunny Burbank, California. It’s going to be a whirlwind right from the start. From Kelly Doherty’s exclusive Imaging House producers and VO bash to the official WWRS welcome cocktail party, to the official welcome address from All Access President Joel Denver tomorrow morning at 9:15. We hope to have highlights for you each day as we take the RadioDaily on the road to Los Angeles for the rest of this week, live from the Worldwide Radio Summit. Or, you know, live as a podcast can be. Stupid technology…

Up next, let’s have a look at who’s moving where, round and round they go, where they land… well, Jockline knows. Industry moves are next in the RadioDaily.

Former longtime WBEB Philly PD Chuck Knight has been inked as the new Senior Vice President of Programming for iHeartMedia Austin and San Antonio, effective this coming Monday. Syndicated Free Beer and Hot Wings adds cheese … no, literally. The Compass Media Networks syndicated show is adding Kelly Cheesborough to the lineup as of next week. She was previously exec producer for Jeff and Jenn at Star 94.1 in Atlanta.

Central Florida Educational Foundation’s Contemporary Christian Z88.3 Orlando has launched a new PM drive show… it’s Afternoons with Shadow and Coppelia, and their first day was yesterday.

North of the border… Corus Entertainment Hot AC has flipped from Fresh back to Energy 95.3 and have firmly installed Tucker and Maura in the Morning. It’s a return to the airwaves for the duo, who were bounced from Virgin Radio Toronto back in November.

NRG Media’s Hot 96-7 in Wausau Wisconsin has a new midday guy… that’s Robby Cruz. He’s incoming from a producer gig with The Rise Guys at Entercom sports ESPN 1320 in Sacramento.

Many new hats for Doug Daniels at Easy 104.1 in Reno, as Big Horn Media names him afternoon host slash sales manager slash consultant. And his wife Denise also comes on board at the station as imaging voice, effective April 1st. That’s a lot of change in one little transaction.

WKNY Radio Kingston in Kingston NY has added an FM translator. For the first time in 79 years you can hear the station on the FM dial at 107.9 FM. It’s a fun, non-comm variety station… and worth a listen for fun. Get them at RadioKingston.org.
