Happy Friday, I’m Chris Kelly and welcome to The RadioDaily powered by vCreative … they do some nice work at vCreative, the kind of stuff you, me and many others don’t know how to do… namely, build complicated software to simplify the workflows behind the scenes at your radio station. There’s a reason both vPPO (that’s paperless production order) and vPromotions are literally used by thousands and thousands of stations around the world… find out why and try them out today – online at vCreativeInc.com.

What company do you think of when you hear THIS <audio>. Unless you regularly crawl the trades and are willing to do some serious Googling, you probably haven’t heard it just yet. That’s the new sonic logo for streaming service Pandora, and is part of their new “Sound On” branding campaign that debuted on Wednesday. It includes a bunch of high profile artists like John Legend, the Jonas Brothers, Maren Morris, Bebe Rexha and more, and coming soon, you’ll probably hear it when you open their app on your mobile device. The logo was created by Grammy winner Matt Winegar, and is exactly what we’ve done at local radio stations for, well, forever, that other much larger, national or worldwide digital brands are now picking up on as well. I mean… not for nothing, but … RadioDaily. <audio> Thank you very much. But to me, it does illustrate a point to a conversation I’ve been having a lot lately. Radio and digital have been two entities mostly independent of each other these last handful of years, right? Digital has been moving toward radio and creating full blown content, obviously, rather than just jukeboxing what radio personalities already did when they played music. That’s why they’re having success, they’re moving toward what radio already does, but with new, cutting edge technology, which enables them to evolve beyond the limits of radio’s technology. It’s kind of a race to the middle… where broadcasting meets podcasting and streaming, etc… As the digital world makes its move toward radio and its base of listeners, shouldn’t radio really move toward digital, finding more and more creative ways to protect it? That conversation is why this podcast was created and will continue in future episodes.

If you’ve ever had the pleasure of chatting with anyone is Australian radio, I can tell you first hand… it’s a treat. They do full blown radio in Australia, like FULL staffs, live all day, with a little bit of networking here and there but are really, truly doing the kind of radio we in the US long to do a lot of the time. And that includes full blown events, one in particular called Skyfire. This is an event put on by SCA’s Hit 104 point 7 in Canberra. Unfortunately, this past weekend, that Skyfire event took on a new meaning as attendees got a little more than they bargained for. <audio> The barge lighting the fireworks on Lake Burley Griffin exploded, shooting fireworks all over the place, some including into the crowd, sending people running. Remarkably, no spectators were injured, but the video is pretty intense. I’ve embedded the video in the show notes for this episode online at TheRadioDaily.com.

It’s a full docket in today’s Jockline, lots and lots of people moving from A to B and some even to C & D … all those industry movers and shakers coming up with Jockline, next in the RadioDaily.

A format change from yesterday to report… Alternative 94Z in Knoxville, which has been under an LMA with Oak Ridge FM, has been taken over by Midwest Communications and promptly flipped to Adult Hits 94.3 JACK FM as of 5 PM yesterday. Midwest already owns a classic rock and a classic country in the market, plus another JACK station in Nashville.

iHeartMedia newsRadio KFBK in Sacramento has anointed Sam Shane as co-anchor of the KFBK Morning News, along with Christina Mendonsa, each weekday from 5 to 9 AM. Shane brings more than 30 years to the slot, including tv work in San Francisco, Seattle and as an anchor at MSNBC.

Another Beasley Fort Myers employee is making the short drive north on I-75 to Tampa as Jeff Zito has been tapped as the new APD and Afternoon jock at Classic Rock sister station 98-7 The Shark. Zito previously worked in the building on a former station, ironically on the same frequency. Beasley just launched the Shark in December.

Froggy 92 point 9 in Santa Rosa, CA announces the newly formed team of Amber & Tanner in the Morning, set to launch April 1st. Amber Henderson comes from Power 100 point 1 in Athens GA and Tanner Chambers, by the way, the winner of the ReelWorld Rising Star award at last year’s Morning Show Boot Camp in Chicago, makes the move to Froggy from the syndicated Fitz Show.

In2une Music has promoted Elana Riggle to VP of Promotion from Midwest Regional Rep. She’s been at In2une the past two years, with prior gigs at Virgin, Warner Bros, Lava and as a college rep for Capitol before that.

Ben Hoffman has been named VP of Sales at Entercom Minneapolis, for 102-9 The Wolf, 104-1 Jack FM and News/talk WCCO.  He’s inbound from Entercom Indianapolis where he was SVP/Market Manager. Those stations were recently spun over to Cumulus.

Cumulus Memphis has extended their deal with PD for KIX 106 and 98 point 9 The Bridge – Duane Shannon. He’s been in the building 9 years and also is the Duane in the Duane and Abby morning show on KIX.

West Virginia Radio Group has appointed Mike Vincent as PD and midday host for 97 point 9 WKKW in Morgantown. Vincent segues from Cumulus in Melbourne FL where was most recently OM of that cluster.
